Leftovers Made Easy

This weekend I had a brilliant idea.

Why not take this conveniently-placed cabinet, which is right above the counter between the stove and the refrigerator and full of less often used items:

And rearrange it to include the oft-used but difficult to grab leftover containers from this inconvenient (and incredibly messy) cabinet located under the counter?

The results are well-organized and will likely remain that way since you no longer have to stoop over and poke your head into the dark, deep abyss of cabinetry to put everything away.

Exhibit B:

This has already paid off immensely by easing transport of leftovers from table to fridge. I can’t believe we’ve lived here for over two years and still haven’t finished organizing the kitchen!

It’s nice having my aunt’s antique dessert plates stored away in a less earthquake- and accident-prone location, too.

  1. I have tried to declutter and streamline our cabinets so I don’t have to bend over to pick things up (not supposed to bend more than 90degrees for the next 3 months…), but things always seem to migrate back to their stubborn spots!

    1. Oh that is too funny! Yeah, they would just get tossed in there willy-nilly. Good luck finding the matching lids! I was stoked to find your blog today, BTW. It’s always fun finding other Spark alumni! (Though I haven’t exactly “graduated” yet……..)

  2. I just recently did this for a few of my kitchen cabinets that were getting pretty out of hand. I had been meaning to do it since I pulling everything out of the big cabinet above our counters and reorganizing it all in boxes a year or so back (I thew away 11 bags of old expired stuff that time >_<). It was a pretty massive undertaking, since our cabinets have a lot more stuff crammed into them than yours seem to. We also did the fridge and under the sink.

    1. We moved from an apartment that barely fit the two of us straight into a house that would easily fit four! Apparently we’re not big shoppers because it’s been two years and everything is still half empty around here. 🙂 I always feel bad that I let stuff expire without consuming it all, but I end up doing the fridge every couple weeks, and the pantry a couple times a year. It makes it so much easier to find good dinner candidates when they’re not obscured by Mac n Cheese dated from 2004!
