I ran a freaking half marathon.

Hey guys. I’m still in shock here. It’s been several days — long enough for my muscles to recover from their rigor mortis-like stiffness — but I still can’t believe that I ran (jogged? pseudo-walked? nearly crawled?) an entire 13.1 miles. Yes, a half marathon. Especially considering that my training took a serious nosedive way back in August, and my last run before the half was a 3.5 mile jog exactly one month in advance. I decided to think of it as a three-month taper period and see what happened. I was partially expecting to collapse halfway through and wake…

Quantum Mechanics, Marshmallows, and Shutting The Hell Up

Schrodinger's lolcat

Something has been bugging me lately: Goals. Not the actual setting of goals, but the way we go about announcing and attempting to achieve them. Conventional wisdom suggests that you shout your goals to the mountaintops. Tell your friends, tell total strangers. Post it on your blog, post it on your mirror. Weekend Goal Evaluations

Happy weekend, guys! I’ve neglected myself a bit this week due to poor planning and a busy work week, so I’m very excited that it’s the weekend. I started it off last night by setting up all sorts of science experiments in my kitchen. I started another sponge for overnight pizza dough, and I introduced my kefir culture to its new home (a glass jar in the pantry). I’ll give you a full breakdown of the kefir process when it’s ready for human consumption. This weekend’s list of Things to Do involves reorganizing my home office, yoga (check! done this…

Blogging it Real

I want a pony! No, a unicorn! And a kitten! And an iPad!!

In the interest of full disclosure (and also because I was highly disturbed to be referred to as a fitness guru earlier today — thanks Tony! 😉 ), I thought I would give you a breakdown of what I’ve actually done this week in comparison to what I said I was planning to do in earlier posts. The Plan In an ideal world — where unicorns fart rainbows, 1 in 4 truly do win something at the McDonald’s Monopoly game, and I can see my abs — every day this week I would have leapt from my silken, thousand thread…

Intuitive Weight Loss

Hello, Internet! This week I’m entering into a very scary phase… Weight loss. Unlike most women, I didn’t give a damn about a lot of superficial things until I was about 17. My wardrobe consisted of various t-shirts and tank tops sporting horizontal stripes, quotes about cats, or logos of newly released video games that I got from working at Electronics Boutique. My favorite feature was my hair, because it was soft and shiny. I didn’t really care about being popular because I had a few really good friends, which was all that I wanted or needed. I didn’t get…
